31st January 2024 - Our live themes will be changing over the coming weeks. These will replace our existing intros and stings which sound very dated and don't feature any of our current voices.
29 November - If you use The Conversation for Features Forum, please record what articles you use on this sheet. This is because we now have a half-hour fortnightly The Conversation program and we want to avoid re-reading articles. Please also check that your articles have not already been read by checking the sheet before selecting.
13 November - Saturday Features Forum crew are reminded not to use the Weekend Australian Magazine or Good Weekend for their program. These magazines are used earlier in the day for the Saturday Feature Magazines segment.
6 November - The tablets are now kept in the locker in the cutting room. If your tablet is below 50% battery level, please plug it in to be charged.
31 October - Please help keep the kitchen clean by doing the washing up with hot soapy water only. Please don't wash just your cup using the tap, the water takes too long to heat up and it's unhygenic using cold water. Just leave your cup until there is enough to be washed.
13 September - There is a "Live Shift Volunteer Survey" link on the desktop of the reception computer. Please fill this in when you have a moment to help us make our live newspaper readings even better for our listeners and volunteers.
31 August - A reminder to all volunteers that you must not attend the station if you have any cold and flu symptoms. While we greatly appreciate the dedication and reluctance to cancel shifts, attending the station while sick will likely lead to more cancellations. We also don't want to put volunteers in an uncomfortable situation by placing them in a studio with someone they know is sick.
31 August - volunteers needed for Diva program. Due to the focus of this publication, we will be prioritising LGBTQ+ volunteers for this role.
17 August - Our motoring program 30 Laps is back! Please put any motoring liftouts into the 30 Laps tray in the rostering room, including Life and Leisure from Friday AFR, and the Business section from the Weekend Australian.
17 August - Our new programming schedule has started! If you have not already made a new promo, please do so with the new times, and contact Marty for any assistance.
Acknowledgment of Country - suggested wording has been placed in the "Announcers" section below. Presently, this is just in the Breakfast scripts. However, other presenters are free to do Acknowledgments too.
31 July - The box for recycled A3 sheets of paper should contain ONLY:
- whole A3 sheets (i.e. nothing cut out of them)
- printed on one side only
- unstapled and un-sticky taped
- placed neatly in the box so they lie flat
- blank side UP
The reason is that these sheets can then be put straight back into the photocopier to help save the station's photocopying paper bill and also help to save the planet - but not if they are damaged or messed up. It would be great if everyone could help with this initiative along with a moment's thought before putting the paper in the box.
31 July - In headlines, where a colon is used, it almost always means "says", and it will make the headlines much more comprehensible to our listeners if that's what we say when we read them. So for example, the headline "Chase mining efficiency, not batteries: report" should be read out as "Chase mining efficiency, not batteries, says report". Similarly, the headline "PM's snub of German arms deal won't hurt trade talks: EU envoy" should be read as "PM's snub of German arms deal won't hurt trade talks, says EU envoy".
9 June - The keypad to the glass entry doors to the St Helen's Centre has malfunctioned several times over the past weeks. If it's not working when you next arrive for a shift and the intercom is also malfunctioning (or there's no answer from upstairs), please phone the City of Sydney Security team on 02 9265 9178. They're available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will open the door remotely.
26 April - Another printing tip: The system has been set up to require not only a code at the computer but also a code at the printing station. If you press "print" on multiple jobs quite quickly at the computer, the printer will release all jobs with one login - provided it's not left idle for more than one minute. Irrespective of the time you choose in PaperCut's drop-down menu, the code you enter into the printing station expires after 60 seconds. This is to accommodate multiple people during busy periods rather than having to wait for one person to finish their entire preparation over, say, a 15-minute period.
21 April - This is a reminder that the Rostering room computer is available to print newspapers until 9.30 am, Monday to Friday (and all weekend). As already mentioned in On the Mic, it is now connected to the PaperCut software, so you will need your code to print.
20 April - The printing software, PaperCut, has been upgraded so that it can not be overridden on any computer. Please ensure you have your printing code when coming into the station. If you have lost it or would like to change it to something more memorable, please contact (nsnell@2rph.org.au). Please note that the default printer is "FollowMe". Its default settings are A4, black and white, and two-sided printing with a portrait layout. If you want to deviate from that, you must change the settings by clicking "More settings". 11 April - All studio computers have now been upgraded! The login details are taped to the monitor in each studio.
30 March - The computer in the rostering room can now be used for program preparation up until 9.30 am in the morning. It's connected to the printer in the preparation room (but not yet to the Papercut program - so you won't need a code for now. Peter will liaise with our external tech teams to set it up shortly).
30 March. The password to the online newspapers has changed. New login details are now affixed to the Preparation and Rostering computer tables.
24 March - The 2RPH subscriptions to the online versions of the daily newspapers should only be accessed from 2RPH computers. Please don't log in to the 2RPH accounts on your devices from home because the subscriptions disallow (a) more than a handful of devices logging in simultaneously and (b) logins in from too many devices, irrespective of whether it's simultaneous or not. We've had a couple of issues lately where people have been locked out on the reception computer, which is stressful when under time pressure.
Please remember to turn off your microphones when playing CDs, especially at the end of your program. It's distracting for the listener to hear shuffling papers and coughing over the theme music.
Please do not throw out the Good Food lift-out as it is needed for the Good Food program.

Announcers

31st January 2024 - Features Forum announcers are reminded to use music sparingly. We have received complaints about too much music on Features Forum.
13 November - Saturday Features Forum crew are reminded not to use the Weekend Australian Magazine or Good Weekend for their program. These magazines are used earlier in the day for the Saturday Feature Magazines segment.
28 September - Music must be kept to a minimum on live shifts, with the exception of Breakfast. Reading articles takes priority over music, and we have attracted complaints about announcers playing multiple music tracks while advising the listener that there is no time to read more articles.
17 August - Please be mindful that some new promos are "time-sensitive", meaning they advise the listener to "tune in today at x time" etc. Do not play "NO FF" promos during Features Forum, as they are for afternoon programs that have already aired by the time FF goes to air.
7 August - Acknowledgement of Country - this is already in the Breakfast scripts, however, other presenters are welcome to use it if they wish. "2RPH would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which 2RPH is located, the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, as well as the Traditional Owners of the lands across which we broadcast. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander listeners and volunteers".
20 July - "Letters To The Editors" starts at 12:45pm instead of 12:40.
23 May - Please turn off Cue at the end of your shift. The Cue button will change what gets sent to the headphones and can be unclear when it gets left on at the end of the shift.
11 May - Please remember that "Letters To The Editors" is pluralised, because this segment uses letters from all of our major newspapers. Please do not say "Letters To The Editor".
11 May - The BBC satellite service has been restored, so there will no longer be a delay in the feed,
11 May - Please mention the day and date at the beginning of each live shift. This will help our listeners with vision disability and clarify the date for those listening to the Newspapers On Demand.
11 April - Every sponsorship message ends with Noel Castley saying "Station Sponsor Message". This tag is compulsory and must not be interrupted for legal reasons. Some announcers have been cutting it off, which could get us in a lot of trouble.
A Death Notices segment has been added to the Illawarra Mercury and Newcastle Herald shifts. This segment comes before the editorials and will be announced at the show's top. If there are no Death Notices, please let the listener know, as they may expect them.
There is a new format for the TV guide in the breakfast shifts. Please read only the main channels (no Nine Go or 7mate) up to 6 am the next day. This is because we are no longer airing the evening TV guide program. An example of this format can be found as an mp3 on the desktop of the reception computer.
Announcers are reminded that they may read articles on air if they choose; there is no rule against this.
Please do not announce the Newcastle and Wollongong weather at the end of the Sydney Morning Herald shift. This is because the weather is covered at the start of the Newcastle Herald and Illawarra Mercury shifts immediately after.
Please avoid saying, "The time on 2RPH is..." when doing time calls. It's better to say, "You're listening to 2RPH. The time is now..."
Illawarra Mercury announcers will notice a new tab in BroadCart for Wollongong station IDs. These are special IDs for our Wollongong and Illawarra listeners, with a 93.3FM frequency. Newcastle Herald announcers can look out for Newcastle IDs in BroadCart over the next few weeks.
