30 Laps web article

The start of March saw the addition of a new weekly motoring program, 30 Laps with Dick. Danielle Hanrahan asked presenter and producer Richard a few questions about what listeners can expect from the show.

What will the program be about?

It’s a light-hearted drive through all things motoring. The program is a 30-minute ode to all things cars, with profiles of classic cars, new developments in the industry, stories and history behind vehicles and manufacturers, well-known race tracks and car journeys, and Motor Mouth is a special segment profiling a famous person from within the industry.

How did the idea for this program come about?

2RPH Production Manager Peter Worthington advised that the station needed a new motoring program to replace the previous one, and so I thought I would try and put a program together. The aim is to read interesting articles for our audience, without being too serious. I enjoy sharing stories that people may not have heard or thought about before.

What do you hope listeners take away from this program?

Something they didn’t know before, a smile and hopefully a desire to tune in next week.

What sources do you use for this program?

I use several sources, including the Drive insert from the Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, Auto Age, Car and Driver, Wikipedia, Car Opinion, Motor Sport magazine, Go Auto magazine, and whatever else flies into the window as we go around the track!

What do you love about being part of 2RPH?

It’s a great community, the people are fantastic, and the station provides a great service. I am proud to be part of the 2RPH family.

Lastly, how long have you been volunteering with 2RPH and what other 2RPH programs can listeners hear you on?

I’m a new chum, May 2018, so still lots to learn. I am also a reader on the Saturday Features Forum on alternate Saturdays.
