As part of our series introducing the 2RPH Board, this month we’re introducing Geraldine Menere, one of our newest Board members.

Can you tell us a little about your history with 2RPH?

I first came across 2RPH while working for Guide Dogs NSW/ACT a few years ago. In my current role at Justice Connect’s not-for-profit law service, I’ve provided legal support to a number of community radio stations and disability organisations, and I’m excited to now be volunteering on the Board to support 2RPH’s future journey.

Why did you decide to run for election to the Board?

I’m passionate about Australia’s community sector and advocating for not-for-profit organisations that support the most vulnerable in our community, so joining the 2RPH Board has provided me with a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community and put my legal nous to good use.

What do you enjoy about being part of 2RPH?

Working with a strong and collaborative board is an insightful experience. The current 2RPH Board has a great mix of skills and it’s an opportunity to learn from others with a wealth of expertise in areas such as finance, technology and community broadcasting.

Are there any particular programs you try to tune into?

I have an almost unhealthy obsession with news and current affairs, so I enjoy the cross-section and variety of programs offered by 2RPH in this area, such as The New Yorker, Koori Times and other less mainstream publications.

What’s something you do in your spare time?

I absolutely love cooking. At times, working as a lawyer in the social justice space can be stressful and intense, so something as simple as chopping vegetables is a mindfulness activity and an escape for me. I rarely use recipes – I like to take whatever is in the fridge and pantry and create something unique (and hopefully delicious!). You’ll often find me spending a shameful amount of time and money in the condiment and sauces section of the grocery store, dreaming up new dishes to try.
