Ruth Hessey

Communications Manager

Ruth is a storytelling and communications specialist, content creator, broadcaster and award-winning documentary filmmaker, who was named one of Sydney's Top 100 Most Influential, Inspiring, Creative People by Fairfax Media.

Ruth currently works as Communications Manager at Radio 2RPH, and Executive Producer Breaking Waves for Eastside FM (Finalist, Best new Show, CBAA Awards, 2021).

Ruth's media career spans print, digital and broadcast for Australia's premium media outlets - Fairfax, Vogue Australia, ABC, The Age, Time Out Sydney. Her film WASTE NOT has been translated into 4 languages, and screened in over 30 countries.

Ruth was Communications Director at Australian NGO Total Environment Centre for ten years and remains Program Director for the WASTE NOT Trashion! education project. She has also worked as a television presenter, travel writer, and environment advocate.

Adept at creating a wide range of content from animations, videos and podcasts to news, children’s stories and contributions to literary anthologies, Ruth enjoys creative problem solving, managing and being part of a vibrant collaborative team.

As an author Ruth is represented by Gaby Naher, Left Bank Literary and is currently finishing a book for Ultimo Press.
